Reborn Doll Care Instructions

Handle With Care

Congratulations on your new adoption! You have chosen a high-quality artist created, one of a kind reborn doll by Shea Butter Babies. Please remember that your doll was created as a collector’s item and not a play toy. Reborn dolls are not suitable for children, and they do not conform to toy manufacturing standards. Your reborn is a fragile, hand painted work of art. Overhandling can cause your doll to become shiny and/or to lose paint. Use as a collectable, delicate keepsake will extend the life of your reborn. Your new reborn doll should be handled carefully just as you would a newborn baby by supporting the head and body.

Your reborn should be kept away from direct sunlight and extreme hot and cold. Never leave your doll in a hot car or near a heat source. You cannot bathe your reborn or use water, lotion, or oil on the vinyl. Magnets used to attach pacifiers are very strong. Pacifiers and magnets can cause wear and tear on the lips over time. These magnets should be kept 2 feet away from electronics and anyone with a pacemaker to avoid interference.

Hair Care

Your reborn doll’s hair is hand-rooted 1-2 strands at a time with premium mohair. Following the rooting process, the hair was sealed on the inside of the head with glue to prevent hair loss. Hair loss can occur from daily brushing. The eyelashes are also sealed on the inside of the head but treat gently as they can come off if pulled or rubbed over by clothing. The mohair can be very gently brushed for styling. Dampen first with water or Mohair conditioner. Once dampened, use a small toothbrush, and gently brush curls around the fingers and pat into the hair. Then let the curls naturally air dry. The hair can also be styled straight. Do not get hair products on the face or limbs of your reborn while you are styling the hair-excessive or repeated spillage onto the paint will result in the changing of the coloring on the skin of your doll. Also, do not paste the hair to the side of the face with a styling product-skin color could be removed over time and some darker colors of hair may bleed onto the skin, depending on the styling product used.

Clothing Changes

Outfit changes can add to the fun and excitement of owning a reborn. However, care should be taken when changing reborn clothing. Limbs should never be forced when changing clothing or posing your reborn. They may be moved very gently for posing and cuddling. Every time you change your reborn’s clothing, you must be careful not to create excessive friction against the painted vinyl as this will cause unwanted wear and tear over time. Rubbing fingers, toes or cheeks can also cause your doll to become shiny or lose paint. Dark clothing (including denim)/ blankets/toys should be washed prior to contact with vinyl- the dark colors retain coloring that can transfer to the vinyl. The head can be gently turned from side to side but not forced.
